February 2025

Embracing the Shifts of the Season

February has been a month of contrasts—cold, frosty mornings giving way to the first whispers of Spring. Snowdrops, daffodils, and crocuses have begun to emerge, adding a welcome touch of colour to the land. Their arrival has been a gentle reminder that winter’s grip is loosening, and the land is slowly waking up.

One of the most magical moments of the month was witnessing the planetary alignment come to an end. During this time, we were gifted with clear night skies around the new moon, allowing us to see Saturn, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus shining brilliantly above. The sense of vastness and connection to the cosmos never fails to inspire us.

Out on the land, the planting of 300 trees has begun in the Spring Field, running alongside the drive to create a natural divide. Among them are Copper Beech, Beech, Oak, Alder, Silver Birch, and a few Larch—each chosen to contribute to the biodiversity of the space, as well as provide shelter and beauty for years to come. Watching these saplings take root and imagining the woodland they will become is a deeply rewarding process.

Despite the persistent dampness of the season, we have pressed on with maintenance tasks. Doors have been freshly painted, and new stones laid for pathways, improving accessibility and defining spaces across the land. The weeding of the vegetable garden and mandala continues, though the wet soil has made it slow progress. Still, the mandala is truly taking shape, and before long, we will be able to introduce the remaining forever plants to their new home.

Another exciting development is the nearing completion of the new labyrinth, designed by Heather. With the final stones being dug into place and a wildflower garden planned to surround it, the space is beginning to take on a life of its own. At the heart of the labyrinth, a wooden log chair will sit among carefully placed crystals, offering a peaceful retreat for those who wish to pause, reflect, and simply be.

This month also brought the joy of reconnecting with friends who came to visit and stay for a while. It’s always special to have more life on the land, filling the space with shared stories, laughter, and fresh perspectives.

Perhaps one of our biggest milestones this month has been the release of our new intro video for Iachusol Enaid (Healing Soul), our dedicated retreat space. With more bookings coming in, we are excited to be growing this aspect of Plas Y Maes and look forward to sharing details of upcoming retreats on our website.

Upcoming Retreat: Somatic Healing & Digital Detox

We are delighted to be hosting the Somatic Healing & Digital Detox Retreat, taking place from 26th to 30th June. This immersive retreat offers a unique opportunity to disconnect from digital distractions and reconnect with yourself through somatic practices, movement, and nature. Set within the tranquil surroundings of Iachusol Enaid, it promises to be a deeply nourishing experience for the body and mind. For more information and bookings, visit www.therapysomatic.com.

As February draws to a close, we turn our attention to the next steps—welcoming Spring, preparing the land, and continuing to create a space where nature and people can thrive together.

Until next time,

Warm wishes from all of us at Plas Y Maes 🌱
