April 2024: Dome Construction & Wwoofers

James, Violet and Austin arrived for 5 days over the Easter break and an egg hunt was accomplished in our small coppice which Stuart had cleared of dead wood.  Several dead trees were chopped down and sawn for firewood which was collected by Hannah, Heather and Julia to be stored in the woodshed.

Stuart built the dome frame and was helped by Simon, James and Hannah to construct it piece by piece.  Special plastic was used to cover the triangular frames with some being left clear.

Our first wwoofer for the year was Hao from China who visited for 10 days and was a pleasure to host being very helpful and friendly.  He did some potting up in the polytunnel weeded and helped to plant out 40kg of potatoes, 41 established sage plants and posts for our peas.  After him came Dylan from Canada who was only here for a week but again extremely helpful by building a wood storage in the retreat field, helping to weed and clear all the grass after Stuart gave this field the first cut.  Netted frames were also made to protect the brassicas in the vegetable garden, loganberries were moved to another area and many logs and wood was cleared from in front of the wood shed.
