January 2025

A wet and windy month with plummeting temperatures so didn’t encourage us to work outside for long.  However some general chores were accomplished like power washing the drive to remove excess mud and weeds.

Plastic covers had to be refixed over some of the vegetable and mandala beds to reduce weed growth over the Winter.  The vines in the polytunnel were pruned again and leaves or debris removed.   The floors were power washed to clear any build up of moss and a general tidy up done.

Stuart started to build the dome he has been commissioned to do and spent many hours constructing the wooden shapes required.  He had the assistance of a friend, Kate who volunteered to help with this and later had help from friends, James, Lee, Kate and Hannah to construct the dome.  This has now been painted and is ready for a door to complete the structure.  This was all done in wet, windy and cold conditions so quite an accomplishment.

Some more strimming was done and another track cleared to open up a pathway.  Some seeds stored in envelopes had to be discarded after a mouse enjoyed a meal from them and made his home there.  A lesson learned to store them in glass jars in future! Heather collected white Borage and Courgette seeds and potted up some Good King Henry plants she had grown from seeds two years ago and will be planted in the mandala in the Spring.
