NOVEMBER BLOG 2024
Two major storms this month with our first snowfall. Many areas were flooded and a lot of trees came down causing a couple of power cuts.
Our vegetable beds were weeded and partially covered by plastic to allow them to rest during the Winter months. Some of the herb beds were also weeded and surrounded by cardboard for protection during the cold weather. All the main fields were mowed for the last time this year and some strimming done in the orchard around the apple trees. The shrubs in the retreat field were weeded and surrounded by matting and stones for protection.
Preparation for our forthcoming Apple Pruning Retreat with cleaning and bed making all the pods was done.
The Pruning Retreat was successful with 11 participants and led by Stuart who did a great job presenting the facts and demonstrating with various tools. Walking tours of the land were given and a fire circle enjoyed each night. During each day, a sound bath was given in the dome which was a new calming experience for some.
James, Jenny, Violet and Austin were able to join us for the weekend so were able to take part in the pruning activities.
A friend, Davinda and her two children stayed for a week as well.
Stuart and Hannah were busy preparing for their stall at the Christmas Festival in Aberglasney Gardens for three days. Stuart unfortunately suffered a deep cut to his finger from the table saw which curtailed things for a while. Heather dug a better path from the playground to her studio and caravan which was then filled in with stones.
Polytunnel clearing of leaves and debris continues and weeding of the fruit cage. The pods were all cleared and bedding stored away for the Winter. One of our previous wwoofers, Sara visited and stayed for a weekend which was lovely.
Heather’s studio was finally connected to electricity so lighting and heating are now available. The month finished with the craft fair at Aberglasney where Stuart and Hannah were able to sell some of their crafts.
